Commentary: Fingerprints Should Only Be Left At The Crime Scene

Who doesn’t have at least one gadget? If you’re reading this, then this is even more of a sure thing, in fact you most probably have at least three. The next question is, how many of these gadgets have a shiny, shiny surface that collects smudges and dust faster than the average Hollywood obsessed signature hound?

A tongue-in-cheek app for the iPhone pokes fun at its tendency to collect..uhhmm..smudges.

Again, the answer is at least one. Gadgets like MP3 players, video players, LCDs, phones, and pretty much anything with an LCD screen is prone to what we call around here as “Smudge-a-tightis” – the unfortunate ability to remove from fingers and whole hands all the oil accumulated from your latest meal at a finger-lickin’ good fast food joint.

That’s why a lot of manufacturers have developed additional layers to be added to the normal matte layer on an LCD monitor – but these add costs and are not as effective as claimed. Enter LG with their own solution – one that takes advantage of the properties found in a non-stick frying pan. LG did not give any other details aside from this fact, so we will have to wait and see whether this solution will be any more effective than the others that came before it.

Thankfully, this smudge resistant technology comes at no extra cost; and according to LG cleaning is much easier than before. Well, I’m not exactly holding my breath, but it would be nice to stop having to whip up the old micro fibre cloth everytime I poke my screen accidentally.
