Video Games Can Be Good.

"Don't play video games because it will make you violent!"

"Playing video games is bad. Period."

Ever since the dawn of Duke Nukem/Doom/Wolfenstein/Quake/CS, a lot of people (including your parents) say that playing video games is bad for you. Not only that, people have been "connecting" the violent actions done by some teenagers to various video games like GTA. Of course, there will still be people who don't really care and still continue to play their favorite video games as a form of catharsis.

If you say that everything about video games is just wrong, think again.

New research just proved that fast paced action games can improve your vision. By how much you ask?

According to Dailytech, playing video games for a few hours a day over a course of a month improved by "about 20 percent in their ability to identify letters presented in clutter, a visual acuity test similar to ones used in regular opthalmology clinics."

According to Daphne Bavelier, professor of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at the University of Rochester:

Action video game play changes the way our brains process visual information. After just 30 hours, players showed a substantial increase in the spatial resolution of their vision, meaning they could see figures like those on an eye chart more clearly, even when other symbols crowded in.

Here's just how they did the test:

The students were given a crowding test, which measured how well they could discern the orientation of a "T" within a crowd of other distracting symbols. Students were then divided into two groups. The experimental group played Unreal Tournament for roughly one hour a day. The control group played Tetris, a game the researchers believe is equally demanding in terms of motor control, but visually less complex than the shooter.

After about a month of near-daily gaming, the Tetris players showed no improvement on the test, but the Unreal Tournament players could tell which way the "T" was pointing much more easily than they had just a month earlier.

Of course, even if they say that playing video games is good for your eyes, it does not follow that you go on and play for 12 days straight. We believe that playing video games CAN be helpful, just so long as you know your limits. If you feel that your eyes are getting tired, then better rest!

Anyway, if you want to read more on this breakthrough, then better click the link over here. Hopefully you guys can now say that 'Video games is gooooood.... For the eyes."
