In an exclusive gathering held at M Café in Makati City last week, the untiring team of HP Philippines Imaging and Printing Group (IPG) presented to the press their latest offerings that cater to the needs of printing business owners, professional photographers and graphic artists. As what we know, these types of customers are very scrupulous when it comes to print quality. But in these challenging times, is it still possible for them to achieve best results without pushing their budgetary priorities into compromise? HP provides us with definitive answers.
HP throws in a catchy and timely subject matter, particularly for local entrepreneurs who are into the field of professional printing.
HP Philippines’ Designjet Marketing Development Manager Mr. Jun Cruz shares his thoughts on the risks and challenges faced by professional printing business. From that point of view, Mr. Cruz positions the HP’s array of Designjet large-format printers (LFPs) as the best solution available in the market today by giving emphasis to its low cost, low TCO, high reliability and HP’s dependable technical support.

Present during the event was the HP Designjet 5100 which is primarily targeted at digital photo shops and type & copy shops. Because of its high quality printouts, HP sees the huge potential of this LFP in producing Point-Of-Purchase (POP) materials which are heavily needed in the field of advertising and marketing. While it has the same hardware as the Designjet 5500, the Designjet 5100 introduces new features as well. Amongst these are the new self-adhesive polypropylene and backlit medial profile for production printing mode; external Raster Image Processing (RIP) cooperation to achieve faster speed with acceptable IQ; and optimized color map and ink gamut. The latter feature is achieved with the help of HP 705, an ink cartridge which contains 680cc of six-color, dye-based ink.

Another Designjet model that was presented during the briefing is the Z3200 which is mainly focused at professional photography studios. Considering that professional photographers are demanding when it comes to color quality, the Z3200 is designed to cover and produce wider color gamut with the use of new Vivera inks, namely HP 73 Chromatic Red and HP 70 QuadBlack Ink set. To achieve a more uniform gloss on the printout’s surface and prevent “bronzing”, users can also employ HP Gloss Enhancer with the Z3200. Printouts made out of Vivera inks can resist fading for up to 200 years.

HP also incorporates its proprietary technologies on the print heads and pigments that are used in the Z3200. The Optical Drop Detection (ODD) mechanism automatically and periodically checks the drop ejection performance of every nozzle to ensure productive operation and ink efficiency. Another innovation, the Electrostatic Encapsulation Technology (EET) optimizes the pigment chemistry and ink properties to ensure reliable operation, high image quality, and enhanced shelf/operational lifespan.
