Sony Summer Must-Haves: Handycams, Cyber-shots, Walkmans, And S-Frames

littlelion | 04 March, 2009 02:05

It’s that time of the year again when people from all walks of life escape from the stress of urban living, go to the countryside, or flock together at the beach to enjoy the sun and beat the sweltering heat. Yes, summer is officially here, and Sony Philippines is tempting us to have a summer "like.no.other" with its latest array of imaging products that allows you to explore and experience the excitement of the season.

Setting a festive summer mood within the grounds of the C3 Event’s Place in Greenhills, Sony showcased a number of sizzling stuff that are both gorgeous on the outside and ingenious in the inside.

Starting off with Sony camcorders, the Handycam lineup is heralded by a range of AVCHD HDD camcorders, in which the highest-end model is the HDR-XR520. This flagship product under the Handycam family incorporates a 240GB HDD within its masculine outline, allowing you to record more than 100 hours of high definition video at 1920 x 1080p resolution. Incorporating an Exmor R CMOS sensor with back-illuminated technology, which improves on the performance of a conventional, front-illuminated CMOS sensor, it doubles up the camcorder's sensitivity while reducing image noise significantly.

It has been a tradition in Sony events that participants should come dressed according to the occasion's theme. Take for instance Mr. Takashi Kozu, Vice-President for Marketing of Sony Philippines, who kicked off the occasion clad in a tropical outfit. Here, Mr. Kozu demonstrates how petite and pocketable the Handycam CX100 is. This camcorder integrates a killer combo of the BIONZ image processor, the Exmor CMOS sensor, and 8GB of internal memory.

Shown here are the Exmor-powered Handycam HDR-XR200 and HDR-XR100, coming with 120GB and 80GB HDD, respectively. Both camcorders are capable of high definition recording at 1920 x 1080p resolution as well.

The DCR-SX40 is one of the first standard definition Handycams which makes use of a Memory Stick for memory expansion, comes with 4GB of internal memory, and features a high optical zoom of up to 60x magnification.

With the Handycam DCR-SR87 and its 80GB of built-in memory, you can brush aside your worries even if you forgot to bring a Memory Stick beforehand.

As if words are not enough to exactly describe how powerful a Sony Cyber-shot T series camera is, Ms. Marielle Panay from Marketing shows us the difference in quality between a standard definition video and a 720p high definition video recorded by a Cyber-shot camera.

Capped with a price tag of PhP 30,999.00, the Cyber-shot DSC-H50 is an ultra-zoom camera with 15x optical zoom and on-the-fly advanced controls to cater to the needs of hobbyists and photo enthusiasts.

Super-slim at 15 millimeters, the 12-megapixel Cyber-shot DSC-T90 never goes slim in terms of features. It comes with a touchscreen LCD and records high definition videos at 720p resolution.

The 10.1-megapixel Cyber-shot DSC-W170 has a lot of technologies under its sleeves such as Super SteadyShot and Intelligent Scene Recognition, just to name a few.

Never miss the beauty of the underwater life with these water-proof marine packs and jackets that let you take pictures down to a depth of 40 meters.

Cyber-shots, Cyber-shots, and more Cyber-shots!

Blowing its own horn as the flagship product under the Walkman lineup, the Walkman X Series sports a touchscreen OLED display with 10,000:1 contrast ratio and less than 1ms response time. Also, it boasts of a lengthy battery life, throwing in 33 hours of continuous music playback and more than 9 hours of nonstop video playback.

The appropriately named Walkman W Series (W means wearable) is a new concept model which carries 2GB of flash memory and features ZAPPIN technology. Previously introduced on Xplod car stereos, ZAPPIN provides you with an easier way to find your favorite songs by playing the chorus of each song as you skip through the playlist.

Whether you just want to display your shots or print them out, Sony has the right stuff to back you up. Shown here are the S-Frame digital photo frame, and the DPP-FP95/W digital photo printer. Unlike the average digital photo frame, the S-Frame features a higher screen resolution and higher contrast ratio, providing you with a better view of your pictures.

A DVDirect Solution, the VRD-P1 enables you to backup photos and videos from a Cyber-shot or a Handycam straight to blank optical media.

10,000:1 contrast ratio on a Walkman? Isn't that too much?

The Cyber-shot DSC-H50 is PhP 30,999.00? If that's the case, I would prefer buying an entry-level DSLR from either Canon or Nikon.
