Events: Dell's "Casual" Launch Event Entices

eddard | 18 September, 2008 17:59

Dell’s Consumer Launch held at the Ayala Tent was only the second launch event held by Dell locally, but one wouldn’t know from the energy and casual yet accomplished atmosphere prevalent during the event. Which is no accident – Dell wants to project a relaxed, “colorful” attitude to the consumers who desires ease-of-use and friendly features from their PCs. Backed by quality and reliability, the new Dell PCs consisting of the Studio Laptop series, the Studio Hybrid PC series, and the highly anticipated Inspiron Mini 9, stand ready to welcome new Dell customers into the fold.

The Ayala Tent venue looked spectacular in person, but is informal enough for the purposes of Dell's launch - a chic place but not overwhelming like a hotel events hall.

Following is a photo series of the launch event in its entirety – take note of the casual atmosphere and the emphasis on how the hardware fits into different kinds of lifestyles and different kinds of personalities. Dell’s slogan “Yours is Here” comes into the fore during this product launch – with all of the colors and all of the products, everyone can find a Dell product uniquely suited to them.

The venue quickly filled up with people, everyone - coincidentally or not - dressed in relaxed clothes.

Iya Yotoko served as host for the night of Dell goodness.

Karen Gonzales - Senior Marketing Manager for Dell, is all enthusiastic for the evening's main stars - the Studio Series laptops, Hybrid PC, and the Inspiron Mini 9.

Barry Bunyi, Dell Philippines Country Manager, sharing his thoughts on the new products and how he dressed specifically for this occassion (casual shirt and jeans!) instead of the usual overbearing coat and tie.

An interpretative dance number was up next, introducing the veritable rainbow of color choices available to the consumer - nicely done with buckets of "paint" "splashed" onto the projector screen, resulting in some unique and alluring shades.

What picture is coming out? It looks like an abstract painting at first...

The Dell colors are there, but the picture looks as mysterious as ever...

This long sequence perfectly illustrates how something that seems complicated and abstract (i.e. your typical over-complicated PC setup) can turn into something colorful and perfectly understandable, not to mention artistic and emotive.

Now, it's simply a confusing mass of color, but bear with it and you'll see where these scribbles are leading to...

Sometimes, it's as simple as turning the whole picture around, and Dell has done exactly that with their products that conform not to simple specifications and costs, but to the consumer's wants and needs.

Next up, Dell pounded in the message with specific "personality types" for specific colors, or at least an example of how the colors are perceived by their customers. Here we have Tangerine Orange.

Flamingo Pink for the metrosexual - also for the swinging Vegas style!

Spring Green for the Eco-Warrior and the down-to-earth types...

Ruby Red for the chic urbanite in all of us - hip and cool...

Plum Purple for the outgoing and active...

The business overtones and timeless nature of Midnight Blue cannot be ignored...

Graphite Grey goes well with the no-nonsense business persona that's also ready to lean back and relax after a day at the office.

Classic Jet Black complements this sophisticate's classic little black dress.

And of course, representing the Inspiron Mini 9, a similarly pint-sized model looking like he came directly from an exclusive school. The Mini 9 is perfect for students and for casual users who only need to get connected and  access essential PC functions.

The whole cast underlines the sheer variety of Dell laptops - indeed, "Yours is Here" - to which I add - "somewhere among the models".

Speaking of models, here's a representative sample of the Studio laptop line - which boasts the following specifications: A choice of Core 2 Duo processors, a 15.4" or 17" 1280x800 / 1440x900LCD, slot-load DVD writer drive or an optionalblue-ray job, up to 3GB of system memory and 250GB of storage, and up to a Radeon 3650 (Studio 17) or Radeon 3450 (Studio 15) for a videocard. Other notable features include mobile broadband connectivity (through cellular networks), a host of Dell-optimized programs for communication and task-managing, and nearly all the ports you could ever want from a portable PC.

This small, uniquely designed Studio Hybrid is Dell's answer to environmental concerns. Drawing less power and consuming less space while still offering an alluring design and a flexible configuration, the Dell Studio Hybrid will attract anybody with space problems, and anyone else with even a modicum of appreciation for good design. Basic specs include support for Core 2 Duo, up to 4GB of DDR2, 320 GB of storage, and an optional Blue-ray drive.

The Dell Inspiron Mini 9 is Dell's entry into the netbook market - a perfect complement to their "Yours is Here" slogan. If there's one emerging market that is finding out that portable PCs can be affordable, feature-rich and powerful enough for most any task they can throw at it, it's this segment, and "Theirs is Right Here" - to coin a phrase. An 8.9"LED display, SSD storage complemented by online storage and Windows XP, in a chassis that weighs in at around 1.04kg makes the Mini 9 a real player in this emerging market.

Mixing with the models after the event, and the traditional "HWM Bunch" group shot rounds out the evening. Watch out for our reviews of these Dell units - we're looking forward to seeing what these babies can do!
