Sony is gearing up for the year with a new, focused laptop contender for the local market, plus a re-emphasis on the Cybershot line’s unique and excellent features. Sony made sure to re-acquaint us with an expo entitled “Summer Pleasures 2008” – an event running the gamut of the whole Sony product line. We lead you through the event as we saw it.
The Cybershot line is going through a mini - Renaissance; it was one of the main focuses during the event.

The "C" line of consumer notebooks - coming in five different colors - was the other big news of the day.

This lustry red laptop got us all hot under the collar - we wanted one of these!

A faux office setting makes for a perfect backdrop for the black "C" Vaio.
Why did blue ever come to mean "sad"? I can't be happier seeing this Vaio in this color.
Luxury Pink for the female, effeminate, or the fashion conscious.

The white version looked somewhat plain compared to its stablemates.
The Vaio Digital Home speaks of sony's efforts in the "Living room PC" space.
Unsurprisingly, there was a large Bravia presence.
What surprised us though was the appearance of a tiny, 11" screen that looked like "nothing" we've ever seen.

A better angle reveals the "nothing" as Sony's OLED screen, still unavailable commercially in the local market.
The Sony 11" OLED has 1,000,000 ++ contrast ratio, meaning the colors seems to leap out at you.
The HD format wars ends with Blu-Ray as the winner. Good news for Sony.
Those speakers are the size of golf balls but produce room-filling sound.
Sony's "Alpha" series of SLRs also made an appearance.

"Color Your Life" is still a central Sony marketing theme. Note the digital photo frames in the background.
Older favorites were also present at the event, such as this UX mini - computer.
Sony Xplod head units.

Select Cybershot models also had "smile editing software" - turn those dour friends of your into grinning guys and gals!
It's like a "tickling" function for your camera.

Sony intends to maintain its presence in the local market, citing unexpectedly large increases in sales and the desire to expand more into the market. With this set of products, they will no doubt be well-equipped to do so. Look forward to our coverage of select products soon in our print and online editions!
