Events: Samsung's Opening Salvo

eddard | 31 January, 2008 17:55

Samsung is maneuvering to get into the best market position this 2008. This is not as hard as it sounds, due to the customer satisfaction and reputation for quality products that the company has nurtured over the years. HWM was invited to attend their year-opening press event held at The Manila Peninsula on January 30, 2008. We bring you the sights of the biggest collection of product releases ever to grace our market from the Korean giant, Samsung.

Our EIC gets down to business trying to describe his fishing trip during the weekend.

Move over Sony! Aside from the fact that Sony doesn't actually sell laser printers, Samsung's foray into design-centric err... design reminds me of that other.. company.

Reminiscent of the company's Bordeaux LCD televisions, this 932 GW looks cool and stylish except for the dancing troupe on-screen. That's not part of the marketing package, is it?

Looking in vogue in silver, this 720 XT demonstrated in an office setting looks ready to do business, besides the lack of open programs that is.

This 743 NX looks so menacing and businesslike I'll refrain from any smart comments for now.

Great colors, subtle shadings wonderful articles and a very high monthly duty cycle describes these perfectly. Oh yeah, the CLX-2160 is a great printer too.

I guess they intentionally used a small table to show how compact the ML-4050N is. Ok point made.

Yes, that's a Samsung laptop and no, They wouldn't say when it's going to be available locally.

The SPH-72H lends an airy, technological feel to your pics and tech=best in our dictionary. If only it didn't sound like some type of sunscreen.

The 2232BW evoked oohs and aahs from its wineglass-shaped form applied to the large 22" canvas. That's an Envy, I mean NV10 digital camera to the right.

Our photographer took this shot for "backup purposes", since there were no live models on the floor. That's a 743 NX 17" LCD by the way.

A closer look at the CLX-2160 reveals its impressive credentials: smallest color laser MFP and the expected excellent print quality. That's even better than back issues of HWM!

The monolithic mass of monitor goodness that is the 460 PXn is so big, it has two legs to other monitors' one - four if you count them separately. We call this a monitor, but it primarily serves as a TV.

Samsung's 1 Terabyte drive may be late to the party, but it arrives with less..... platters. With only three 334 GB platters to other competitor's 4 or 5, this areal density king will surely be a speed demon.

This handsome SE-T084L slot-in drive is a perfect companion to those lonely, drive-less ultra portables.

We couldn't resist - the SCX 4500 looks incredible, and lighting conditions did not allow for such an impressive shot of the printer.

Mr. Bong Wan Kim, VP for Information Technology for Samsung, is understandable happy with the number of Samsung products on display.

While some of the products on display did not yet have a definite release date or even an assurance of availability, these products serve to show how committed Samsung is to further developing the local market and catering to techies’ and consumers’ wants for their increasingly high-tech lifestyle. We're looking forward to review these products; do watch out for them in  upcoming issues of HWM, and in these online pages in our editor's blogs!
