Samsung Printer Launch In Singapore: Ushering In The New Age Of Web Printing

littlelion | 12 November, 2009 10:42

Large-scale success stories do not happen overnight. Depending on the external and internal variables that are present, the achievement of a goal may take several years before it gets accomplished. Take for instance the case of Samsung’s laser printer business. After years of hard work, the Korean giant is now savoring the fruits of its labor. Just last year, the company added a mind-shattering USD 550 million to its coffers, and recorded 15% annual growth rate. In spite of these flattering figures, Samsung is still discontented. Samsung’s grand ambition is to claim the top spot in global laser printer market by the end of the decade.

With that said, every course of action that Samsung took this year is geared towards that clear objective. For 2009, the company chose Web printing as their key selling point in order to stand out among the competition. Samsung put stress on this proposition on two separate occasions: first at IFA 2009 in Berlin; and more lately, at the regional conference in Singapore. Fortunately, Samsung gave us the opportunity to cover the highlights and sidelights of the latter event, so here they are.

Neo Launches Edge Ultraportable Notebook Series: Sharpening The Cutting-edge

littlelion | 15 October, 2009 13:50

For more than a week, we have been occupied by a series of product launches and events. Although this state of affairs is already a customary thing for us who are working in the field of IT journalism, the level of engagement is quite overwhelming at the moment. We are not making a protest, but rather thankful as the situation is an indication of a good business and harmonious relationships with the industry’s players.

One of the events that we attended just a couple of days ago was staged by Neo. The said Filipino company has been ardent and aggressive in reaching consciousness of consumers from various levels through new products and concept stores. Last year, we spotted Neo as one of the participants at COMDDAP. This time, Neo has launched the Edge as the latest addition to its other lines of notebook computers, namely Basic, Vivid, and Elan.

Canon And HWM Philippines High 5ive! Promo: Let The Christmas Season Begin!

littlelion | 07 October, 2009 13:41

Did you know that the Philippines is known for having the longest celebration of the Christmas season in the world? As early as September, the month which we locally mark as the start of the cold “ber” months, we could already hear Christmas carols on air and see colorful parols hanging almost everywhere. With that said, Philippines, perhaps, is also the earliest celebrant of Christmas in the planet. The season lasts until the Feast of the Epiphany which takes place during the first Sunday of January.

Likewise, HWM Philippines, the tech magazine that gives you the power to decide, and Canon Marketing Philippines team up to bring the Yuletide delight at the earliest. As a way of thanking our readers and subscribers for supporting HWM these past five years, we have launched the “High 5ive!” promo this September. “High 5ive!” is a special program exclusively offered to avid HWM fans which entitles them to a special discount on selected Canon printers.

WD My Book, My Passport And SmartWare Launch: External HDD Array Extended

littlelion | 29 September, 2009 13:45

In 2000, the first commercial USB flash drive had a scant storage capacity of 8 megabytes. Today, you can buy a 256 gigabyte USB flash drive in simple terms. The big leap took less than a decade. Mechanical hard disk drives (HDDs) took more than 50 years to reach 256 gigabytes. Certainly, USB flash drives and other flash-based external storage devices are fast becoming more advanced than ever before.

 WD My Book Essential

But in spite of this rapid development, external HDDs remain popular among consumers, mainly because they are less expensive than their non-mechanical counterparts. Nevertheless, manufacturers such as Western Digital (WD) are working zealously to make external HDDs not only price-attractive, but appealing in terms of physique, storage size and features. WD realized that way of thinking by unveiling their latest line of My Book and My Passport HDDs, along with the new SmartWare software.

HP Managed Print Services: Clearing Out The Clutter Of Document Management

littlelion | 22 September, 2009 13:53

Without doubt, Hewlett-Packard is among the top brands which almost every consumer could easily relate with printing. Such a premise is no longer surprising, taking into account that HP printers are nearly as ubiquitous as a sheet of paper. This is what we are seeing at the consumer base. But what most of us are probably not aware of is that HP has also achieved that similar level of omnipresence at the enterprise plateau. For this reason, the Imaging and Printing Group (IPG) of HP is taking the enterprise business segment seriously.

In the Asia Pacific and Japan region alone, the IPG has slated several solutions in the pipeline to cater to the needs of the enterprise market in terms of document management. These were unraveled and discussed in full detail during the recent regional press conference held by the IPG led by Mr. Bruce Dahlgren, Senior Vice President for Managed Enterprise Solutions (MES); Mr. Chris Morgan, Senior Vice President; and Mr. Pierre Mirlesse Vice President for MES.

Canon Future Nation Launch: Seven New Digital Cameras In One Big Blowout!

littlelion | 11 September, 2009 14:29

We are still far away from COMDDAP, but one of the fair’s major showstoppers, Canon Marketing Philippines, already gave us a glimpse of what to anticipate at their booth this year. After creating some noise in the South during the Davao leg of COMDDAP 2009, Canon focused again its forces in Manila, staging the event dubbed “Canon Future Nation” at Whitespace a couple of days ago in Makati City, in which a total of seven new digital cameras were officially unveiled.

Canon Marketing Philippines President and CEO Mr. Ramon Arteficio made his cordial welcoming remarks amid the members of the press. And who are those guys on stage? Dressed in flashy costumes, they embody the futuristic theme of the affair.

2.4 Times The Printing Advantage: All Thumbs Up For Original HP Inkjet Cartridges

littlelion | 18 August, 2009 14:14

Over three months ago, HP Philippines, through the Imaging and Printing Group (IPG), had invited us to a press briefing in which the company made a comprehensive discussion about the value that users, individual customers and business owners alike, can gain from making use of original HP ink cartridges. What was important about the said meeting were the meaningful figures that HP showed us, drawn from the recent study that they held in collaboration with QualityLogic.

As if their target audiences were still unconvinced about the magic that original HP ink cartridges can bring, HP carried out another valuable study, this time, working in partnership with TÜV SÜD PSB Pte Ltd, a Singapore-based firm specialized in product testing, inspection and certification services, and has a sterling record of over 30 years.

Toshiba Media Lunch: Unveiling Of The Toshiba Art Collection Series

littlelion | 22 July, 2009 12:06

Getting out of the pack has always been the name of the game for Toshiba. Despite the loud and extravagant product launches that its competitors had kicked off during the past couple of weeks, the Japanese company, through its exclusive local distributor, Tricom Dynamics Inc., opted to gather select members of the press for an exclusive luncheon at the M Cafe in Makati City instead.

For some reasons, it isn't hard to think that the timely unveiling of the Toshiba Art Collection Notebook Series was associated with the art exhibit happening at the Ayala Museum during that time.

Frankly, we also liked the approach that Tricom had taken as we were able to focus more on the new technologies presented rather than the colorful distractions of a festive event.

Gateway Desktop And Notebook PC Launch: A Night Of Sense And Style At The Embassy

littlelion | 16 July, 2009 14:34

The Embassy Super Club might not be the perfect venue for product launches such as those for consumer PCs. However, that impression would apply only, perhaps, if we live in the early 90’s when computers were mind-numbing and set aside for professionals and enthusiasts.

Showoff. Express. Impress. Without any hint of doubt, Gateway’s product launch revolved around the theme of freedom of expression.

Today, more stylish than ever, consumer PCs, whether in the form of a desktop or a laptop, are a top priority, even in the wishlists of the city’s classiest fashionistas. Hence, we didn’t dare to question the Acer Group when they decided on the Embassy as the launch site of Gateway’s newest, chic line of consumer PCs.

On two separate occasions, Hewlett-Packard Philippines gave us a clear vision of the roadmap it is taking as a company which continuously and devotedly puts into practice its social and environmental responsibilities.

JVC Xiview LT-42WX70 And Sophisti NX-D Series Launch: A Marriage Of Sight And Sound

littlelion | 07 July, 2009 13:32

JVC Philippines had thrown a “wedding” in Shangri-La Makati last week and we were among the lucky ones who witnessed the whole affair. However, the said “wedding” was totally different from the customary nuptial ceremony that we know. There was no priest, entourage, groom nor bride involved. Yet, all of us who attended were living witnesses to the marriage of sight and sound, celebrated through the introduction of JVC’s Xiview LT-42WX70 LCD monitor and Sophisti NX-D Series DVD compact component systems.

The guests, comprised of IT journalists and professional photographers, are getting ready for the start of the “wedding” program.

LG Scarlet LH70 Full HD LCD TV Launch: When It Rains, It Pours

littlelion | 10 June, 2009 15:05

For the first half of 2009, this is the second time around in which we braved the pouring rain just to be present at a product launch of LG Philippines. Don’t consider this as a complaint, but a compliment, bearing in mind that rain has always been considered as a good portent of prosperity since the olden times. As a matter of fact, this is an actuality for LG who now ranks as the world’s third largest mobile phone manufacturer. Another important fact which is very much related with our story today, LG is also the second largest producer of television sets worldwide.

Following on the success of the LG70, the original Scarlet, LG Philippines organized the launch of the LH70, the new Scarlet model, last week.
