This is just in. According to NYTimes, Nintendo is having a total recall for its Nintendo Wii straps.
This is probably because of the various reports from different Wii owners that their Wii controllers "destoyed" their expensive sets.
How?
Well, users have been playing a lot of Wii Sports lately. And from what I read from various blogs, the strap snaps off when you "force" a particular motion.
For example, you are playing the bowling game, of course, you'd try your best to swing it like a pro. Problem is, the strap is just not strong enough for this movement, resulting to a "strap" malfunction.
According to the article:
The console's motion-sensitive remote controller can be swung like a tennis racket, golf club or sword, depending on the game. But soon after the Wii went on sale last month, the excesses of overzealous players became apparent.
Nintendo will now allow customers to exchange the old straps, which have a 0.024 inch diameter, for a beefed up strap that has a diameter of 0.04 inch, company spokesman Yasuhiro Minagawa said.
''People tended to get a bit excited ... and in some cases the control would come loose from their hands,'' Minagawa said. ''The new strap will be almost twice as thick.''
If that's the case, then I do hope it gets fixed right away.
