HP Pavilion dv2 Notebook: Embracing The Yukon Approach

littlelion | 30 July, 2009 11:24

If the previous year was set aside for netbooks and mini-notebooks, this year the spotlight is apparently beamed towards cheaper, ultrathin notebooks. We have already seen some of them and most are banking on the CULV processors from Intel. Given such a picture of affairs, some might be waiting for an answer from AMD. Well, their response has arrived on time in the form of HP Pavilion dv2 notebook, which is capitalizing on the AMD Yukon platform.

For your information, the Yukon platform, in the case of the dv2, is comprised of a single-core AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 (1.6GHz, 512KB L2 cache) and an AMD RS690E + SB600 chipset combo. The processor is basically the old Athlon 64 (K8) architecture all but boasting 15 watts TDP based on the existing 65nm process technology. Obviously, the AMD chip consumes more power than the Intel CULV but this would also mean better performance in theory. Before we further talk about performance, let's lay our hands first on the tangible aspects of the dv2 notebook.

LG Flatron W2253TQ Full HD LCD Monitor: Carrying On The Flatron Heritage

littlelion | 28 July, 2009 12:15

Leave it to the Koreans when the question under discussion is “who are the top LCD panel manufacturers of the world?” Although the presence of Taiwanese rivals is hard to disregard, the competition is dominated by LG and Samsung without a doubt, with both companies having a hold over nearly 50% of the global LCD market share.

Given the reputation that they possess, it is only sensible that their offerings stand out amid other products in terms of aesthetics. In the same way that their colossal HDTV cousins draw our interest, Korean LCD monitors continue to put us under a spell with their eye-catching designs, not to mention the cutting edge technologies beautifully hidden underneath them. LG is throwing in a precise example of these ingenious inventions with the Flatron W2253TQ LCD monitor.

ASUS RT-N13U Super Speed N Wireless Router: Taking Up The Right Route

littlelion | 23 July, 2009 15:26

As what we all know, the chief function of every router is very simple: it enables you to set up a network and connect to the Internet. Period. If these were only the criteria that pedestrian consumers can put into consideration, it will turn out that all routers are equal and there is no competition at all. But in reality, that is not the case. Looks aside, routers differ from one another in terms of user-friendliness and their supplementary features. These were two of the decisive factors that we looked into when we set up the ASUS RT-N13U wireless N router.

The RT-N13U wireless N router package is bundled with a regular set of accessories that you would find in other offerings: an RJ-45 Ethernet cable, driver and utilities disk, and power adapter. For connectivity, the set of ports is ordinary as well, with the USB 2.0 as an exclusion, which can accommodate an external storage device such as a USB hard drive or a USB flash drive with at least 2GB capacity.

Toshiba Media Lunch: Unveiling Of The Toshiba Art Collection Series

littlelion | 22 July, 2009 12:06

Getting out of the pack has always been the name of the game for Toshiba. Despite the loud and extravagant product launches that its competitors had kicked off during the past couple of weeks, the Japanese company, through its exclusive local distributor, Tricom Dynamics Inc., opted to gather select members of the press for an exclusive luncheon at the M Cafe in Makati City instead.

For some reasons, it isn't hard to think that the timely unveiling of the Toshiba Art Collection Notebook Series was associated with the art exhibit happening at the Ayala Museum during that time.

Frankly, we also liked the approach that Tricom had taken as we were able to focus more on the new technologies presented rather than the colorful distractions of a festive event.

Sharp AQUOS LC-52A77M 52-inch Full HD LCD TV: Bullying The Competition

littlelion | 21 July, 2009 13:13

The Sharp AQUOS LC-52A77M is one of the largest LCD TVs that we have seen so far for this year. In this respect alone, we thought that this would be a subject that might interest you. Hence, we decided to bring out this special feature for your perusal. But the enormous display panel is just the tip of the iceberg. As you read through, you will find out that this 52-incher has more fascinating stuff to show off up its sleeves.

Like the AQUOS A66 Series, the A77 Series, in which the LC-52A77M belongs, leverages on an LCD panel type dubbed by Sharp as the ASV Super Lucent. This LCD panel espouses a super smooth finish that reduces the annoying glare caused by ambient light. Additionally, featuring 10-bit color depth, the ASV Super Lucent panel covers a more comprehensive color spectrum. With that said, this type of LCD panel should be capable of producing images with smoother gradations in theory. Sharp boasts that their ASV Super Lucent panels are fabricated from their assembly line in Kameyama, a city in Mie Prefecture, Japan.

Gateway Desktop And Notebook PC Launch: A Night Of Sense And Style At The Embassy

littlelion | 16 July, 2009 14:34

The Embassy Super Club might not be the perfect venue for product launches such as those for consumer PCs. However, that impression would apply only, perhaps, if we live in the early 90’s when computers were mind-numbing and set aside for professionals and enthusiasts.

Showoff. Express. Impress. Without any hint of doubt, Gateway’s product launch revolved around the theme of freedom of expression.

Today, more stylish than ever, consumer PCs, whether in the form of a desktop or a laptop, are a top priority, even in the wishlists of the city’s classiest fashionistas. Hence, we didn’t dare to question the Acer Group when they decided on the Embassy as the launch site of Gateway’s newest, chic line of consumer PCs.

Lenovo IdeaCentre C300 All-In-One Desktop PC: A Bundle Of Joy For Students And Professionals

littlelion | 09 July, 2009 13:41

If you have visited our news section recently, you may have already come across Lenovo’s Back-to-School promotion. The said campaign focuses on two of the company’s Intel Atom-based products, namely the IdeaPad S10-2 netbook and the IdeaCentre C300 all-in-one desktop PC. Because netbooks have been coming in and going out from our headquarters for quite some time, we felt a fair amount of excitement for the S10-2. However, what really enthused us was the C300. Thankfully, Lenovo Philippines, through their PR agency, Ardent Communications Inc., sent us a model.

Honestly, the Lenovo IdeaCentre C300 all-in-one desktop PC reminds us of the USB LCD monitor that we reviewed a few weeks ago, all but packed with a nettop computer at the back. With its small footprint, tidy cables and fold-away stand, the hip and compact C300 sits nicely in any study room, allowing more space for students as well as professionals, to work comfortably.

JVC Philippines had thrown a “wedding” in Shangri-La Makati last week and we were among the lucky ones who witnessed the whole affair. However, the said “wedding” was totally different from the customary nuptial ceremony that we know. There was no priest, entourage, groom nor bride involved. Yet, all of us who attended were living witnesses to the marriage of sight and sound, celebrated through the introduction of JVC’s Xiview LT-42WX70 LCD monitor and Sophisti NX-D Series DVD compact component systems.

The guests, comprised of IT journalists and professional photographers, are getting ready for the start of the “wedding” program.

Canon EOS 500D DSLR Camera: Continuing The Digital Rebel Revolution

littlelion | 02 July, 2009 04:46

There is always a reason for everything, and relating such a way of thinking to why Canon baptized their first entry level EOS DSLR camera, the 300D, as the Digital Rebel, we can say that the Japanese company had named it appropriately. A revolutionary in its own right, the 300D was a milestone in the history of digital photography, as it was the first DSLR to hit below the USD 1000 price mark.

Recognizing the actuality that the current definition of entry level, in the context of digital photography, has been radically changing for years, we have been witnessing the evolution and expansion of the EOS entry level category since the day the 300D was born. Fast forward to the present, Canon introduced the EOS 500D as the latest addition to their illustrious entry level lineup.
