Creative Announces GIGAWORKS G550W
Speakers/Headphones | Just Announced
Fri 06 Jan 2006

SINGAPORE - January 5, 2006 - Creative announced the GigaWorks G550W 5.1 speaker system. Featuring 2.4GHz technology for wireless transmission to the connected two rear speakers from up to 30 feet away, the THX-certified GigaWorks G550W delivers rich, powerful surround sound for music, movies and games. Offering the same power and performance of the award-winning GigaWorks G500 speaker system, The GigaWorks G550W will be available in March for an estimated street price of US$399.99. It will be demonstrated from Thursday, January 5 through Sunday, January 8 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, NV in the Creative exhibit #30742 in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

“With the Creative GigaWorks G500W we started out with an award-winning 5.1 speaker system and designed it so there were no wires between the front and rear speakers. This enables anyone who doesn’t want the clutter of wires to get full surround sound from a 5.1 system without sacrificing power or performance,” said Dylan Rhodes, speaker brand manager for Creative. “This is an awesome game sound system with a totally hassle-free setup. Anyone who wants powerful surround sound for their games can have it without pulling up carpet, punching holes in walls, or running ugly wires along base boards to connect rear speakers.”

The GigaWorks G550W features 2.4GHz wireless technology for strong, clear audio reception. The system uses a small wireless receiver that can be hidden discretely in the rear of the room wherever there is a single power outlet, connected to the two rear speakers. Competing wireless speaker systems require each of the rear speakers to be powered independently, which can be difficult for users who don’t have a power outlet near each speaker.

The GigaWorks G550W is based on the popular design and technology of the GigaWorks G500, recipient of numerous magazine Editor’s Choice Awards. The GigaWorks G550W delivers 310 watts of total RMS power and features a 130-RMS watt wooden subwoofer, with an eight-inch, long-throw driver with twin Flared Dyna-Ports™ to maximize airflow for deep, intense bass. Each of the five satellite speakers has a three-inch, full-range driver with a Flared Dyna-Port that extends the low to mid-range frequency response.

The GigaWorks G550W speaker system is also packed with professional touches usually found only on high-end home theater equipment. Each satellite features high-end spring clips that give users the flexibility to adjust or substitute wires, plus standard ¼” -20 connectors for speaker stands or wall-mounting.

An included wireless remote controls total system volume, subwoofer output, and front, rear and center channel levels. The wireless remote can also control play, pause, mute, select tracks, and audio mode on Creative Zen MP3 players.

Creative Decoder DDTS-100

The GigaWorks G550W coupled with the Creative Decoder DDTS-100 delivers a powerful audio experience to console gaming systems including Sony’s PlayStation 2 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360. The DDTS-100 provides an ideal alternative to speaker systems that add decoding by default for an additional cost, which is unnecessary for anyone who already has hardware decoding on the PC. Supporting the latest audio standards such as Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES, Dolby Pro Logic II and Neo:6, the DDTS-100 decodes surround sound encoded material in console games with home theater quality. In addition to the three digital optical-in connectors, the Creative Decoder DDTS-100 boasts three analog stereo inputs and one digital coaxial input for connecting a host of other components.
