Creative recently announced the Zen Wireless Headset at CES 2005 for its Zen Micro MP3 players and today, www.hardwarezone.com® introduces the Creative Digital Wireless Headphones CB2530 that is not just for Creative players, but is catered for any device with a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Wireless Music on the Move
Don’t you just hate to coil the excessively long headphone wires from your portable audio player? Thanks to Bluetooth technology, Creative has a wireless headphone solution that transmits audio to your headphone without the wires for up to 10 meters.
Those who have used Bluetooth headset for mobile phone may experience difficulty in syncing the devices using passwords at times but interestingly, the Digital Wireless Headphone CB2530 does not require such a cumbersome process. The audio adapter and the wireless headphone are synced automatically by simply turning on both devices. Due to this intelligent syncing process, you’ll have one less Bluetooth device password to remember.
The Digital Wireless Headphones CB2530 comes in either black or white colors with interchangeable side faceplates that are provided in the package. Let us take a look at the main components of Creative Digital Wireless Headphones CB2530.
The Wireless Headphone
The Wireless headphone uses two AAA batteries hidden within the left headphone. The weight of the headphone with the batteries is only 203 grams and it doesn’t feel heavy when it’s over your head. The headphone comes with an adjustable headband that will fit most people, but the headphone itself does not grip well as both earpieces do not cover the ear in full. This may cause the headphone to slip off easily if use them in rigorous activities such as running.
The power on/off switch and the volume jog dial are ergonomically designed behind the earpiece where they can be reached easily with your thumb. For short periods of silence, such as when you need to hear what your friends have to say, you can activate the mute function by pushing the jog dial.
The Audio Adapter
The audio adapter uses one AAA battery and weights 20 grams. It can be connected to any existing 3.5mm headphone jack connection, which is commonly used in most portable audio players. Other types of connections are possible via third party adapters. Once the connection is set, the audio adapter acts as the transmitter where it delivers the audio to the headphone via Bluetooth (Class 2) up to 10 meters.
To sum it off
We love the idea of having a wireless headphone using Bluetooth technology for our portable audio players. With it, you can forget all about those messy and coiled headphone wires when you take them out from your bag. The other advantage of having this wireless headphone is that you can also hide the audio player in your bag while listening to it via the wireless headphones. That way, you wouldn’t be strapped around with wires.
Its battery life of 7 hours should last for a couple of trips. Even if the batteries are flat, you can easily purchase any pair of AAA batteries from shops without having to source for a power point to charge.
For a Bluetooth device, the Digital Wireless Headphone CB2530’s intelligent syncing without the use of any password is very practical. However, because of this dedicated syncing, Creative cannot add headset/headphone profile features for Bluetooth enabled mobile phones.
The letdown for this player has to be the earpiece design. In our opinion it doesn’t look fashionable when worn around the head with the thick protruding earpiece looking a little out of proportion. Also, the grip for the headphone isn’t tight and may fall off anytime upon a great jerk. We would love to have an earpiece that fully covers the ear though (those that are circumaural in contrast to supra-aural).
Recommendations
You will love the Creative Digital Wireless Headphones CB2530 if you are not very particular about sound quality. It is great for casual listening, though a little expensive for its caliber. For a wireless headphone based on Bluetooth technology, we are certainly impressed with its simplicity of use and the convenience it brings without the wires.
If you hate the idea of having to coil headphone wires every now and then, the Creative Digital Wireless Headphone CB2530 is available now with a RRP of S$229 at CreativeX showroom.
