Lawsuit Threatens to Derail E-Book Reader Launch

Just when we thought that Barnes & Noble's recently announced Nook would be shaking up the emerging e-book reader scene, it appears that the launch has hit a snag. Spring Design, another company that has just announced its own e-book reader has filed suit, claiming that the Nook was based on their ideas and that Barnes & Noble had stolen them. With this lawsuit, it's likely that sales of the Nook may be delayed by the court until it is settled. The only good news so far from the Nook's appearance is that Amazon has slashed its Kindle 2 pricing to match the Nook's US$259.

PCMag.com - Spring Design on Monday said it was suing Barnes & Noble for stealing its ideas and using them for its Nook e-reader. Spring Design introduced its Alex e-reader the day before the Nook made its debut.

Barnes and Noble unveiled its e-book reader, the Nook, on October 20. The device, which will retail for $259, is expected to debut at the end of November. It has a color, touch-sensitive display for navigation, allows for wireless downloads via AT&T's 3G network or Wi-Fi, and runs a variation of the Android platform.
