Toshiba Introduces the Toshiba Satellite L510 that Raises the Bar for Everyday Computing

SINGAPORE, 9 June 2009 – Toshiba’s Computer Systems Division (CSD), a division of Toshiba Singapore Pte Ltd, today announced its new affordable Notebook PC that’s designed to handle today’s everyday computing tasks and yet look good while doing it.

“No longer are value and style mutually exclusive with the Satellite L510. This new model proves that design and quality is no longer a matter of budget,” says Ms. Wong Wai Meng, Senior Product Marketing Manager for Toshiba’s Computer Systems Division. “Whether the customer is a first-time buyer or someone who is just looking for a device to meet his or her everyday computing needs – they’ll find what they are looking for in the Satellite L510."

Modern Notebook PC for style- and value-conscious consumers

Designed to deliver a broad range of everyday computing features, the Satellite L510 offers a higher level of design than that would be expected from such an affordable device. IMR (In-Mould Rolling) is used to deliver a unique Breeze design, with rolling slim lines on the Glossy Metallic Gray surface. A multimedia bar with four buttons enhances usability, as does the seamlessly integrated touch pad.

The right power for the job

The Satellite L510 offers a range of three CPUs to choose from: Intel Pentium Dual-Core, Intel Core 2 Duo Processors. Both Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 (ext 256MB VRAM) GPUs are available.

The Satellite L510 also has a 14" high definition LED backlight display with Clear SuperView Technology, and a true widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio that offers a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.

Connectivity is defined by an embedded WLAN interface including draft-n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) and Fast Ethernet LAN (10/100 Mbps). Toshiba ConfigFree facilitates configuration of network access.

Though being positioned in the price-conscious mainstream market segment the Satellite L510 is furnished with a broad variety of ports: a 4-in-1 Card Reader slot, two USB 2.0 ports, additional eSATA/USB combo port, and an HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) port on selected configurations. A DVD Super Multi (Dual Layer) drive and a VGA web camera supporting Toshiba's SmartFace Face Recognition software for easy log-in to password protected applications are also onboard.

Go Green with Power Saving Eco Utility

The Eco utility allows the user to work in the Eco Power Plan in a simple and easy way. When the Eco mode is on, the system works according to Eco mode parameter and when the Eco mode is off, the system works according to the power plan. By opening the Eco utility Graphical User Interface (GUI), the user can see the real time system power consumption and experiences the difference of power consumption between the Eco Power Plan and the previous Power Plan.

As a responsible global corporate citizen, Toshiba ensures that all laptops are RoHS-compliant, effectively reducing the environmental impact by restricting the use of lead, mercury and certain other hazardous substances. Additionally, the Toshiba Eco utility and PC Health Monitor help to reduce power consumption. The new Toshiba Satellite L510 is compliant to ENERGY STAR 5 .0.

1 Calculated as one PCs per person.

2 CO2 emissions are calculated based on the method developed by the Research Center for Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Based on the usage conditions (in households) defined by The Energy Conservation Center, the requirements for calculating LCA are: use for 15 hours per week (operating mode: 10 hours, stand-by mode: 5 hours), based on 52 weeks (one year) and five years of PC usage. The calculation is based on mainstream notebook PC (15-inch LCD with Celeron type CPU) and desktop PCs with similar specifications that are in wide use.
