All hail the thinnest and slimmest mobile phone from the Finnish company’s portfolio, the Nokia 2630. With easy navigation controls and huge readable fonts, it will no doubt be a hit with the no-frills crowd. That being said, let's take a closer look into what the Nokia 2630 has to offer.
Simplicity Now
With the vast number of complicated and fancy mobile phones in the market, the Nokia 2630 is quick to catch one's attention, precisely because of its simplicity. Arriving as an entry level phone with only the basic functions, it is sufficient for a user who is just looking for a decent mobile phone for calls and text messaging. Although this might seem as a minority group out there, they must be glad to find the Nokia 2630 which fits their lifestyle perfectly.
Holding this slim mobile in your hands, you would immediately be surprised by its weight. However, the consumer might be disappointed with its texture and feel, as most parts of the mobile are plastic. It's understandable however since this is a budget phone. Personally, we liked the huge keypad, which makes blind typing possible. Our only wish is that the navigation keys not be flushed with the keypad as consumers with larger thumbs might experience some difficulty during input.
The absence of dedicated volume keys might seem as an inconvenience to some. To adjust the volume on the Nokia 2630, consumers would have to use the navigation keys. Where the dedicated keys should have been, other features have been installed instead. These include a 2.5 millimeters audio jack, a micro USB port and the charging port. At the same time, we understand that it is implemented this way to save space and cost.
Comprehensive Utility
Running on a S40 platform, the Nokia 2630 delivers and offers features like a FM radio, a calendar, and also a camera.

On top of all these functions, the mobile phone also has a prepaid tracker which can aid those consumers who are not on post paid accounts.
The Nokia 2630 also has a function which allows the consumer to change the font sizes on the screen, with four choices of large, normal, small and extra small. The elderly and the short sighted would obviously stand to benefit from this. In addition, the screen is vivid and bright so consumers should have no difficulty trying to utilize this mobile in the sunny outdoors.
As mentioned, there is a VGA camera embedded on this mobile. Although the picture quality cannot be compared to other camera phones in the market, it is sufficient to capture some spectacular sights along the way. One thing to note is that the camera button is located at an awkward location when the interface is in portrait mode. With an onboard memory of 10MB, a limited amount of pictures could be saved, as this mobile does not have an expansion memory slot.
Call quality was loud and clear, even at noisy locations so consumers should not worry about this aspect. The speed of the phone is acceptable, though a certain amount of lag time was experienced while trying to open certain programs and image folders. As for its battery life, we tested it with a mixture of calls, messaging and radio usage and found that it lasted close to three days.
Overall View
Although the Nokia 2630 is an entry level, mobile phone, it still has its appeal. Being lightweight, having a slim profile and well spaced keys are the pluses, making it a worthwhile purchase. The downside would be the absence of dedicated volume control keys. The Nokia 2630 carries a decent price tag, and has the necessary mobility functions. In short, it is an idiot-proof mobile phone for those who require only the bare essentials.
