Cooler Master's back with a new High Air Flow (HAF) model, this time it's the mid-tower HAF 922 that promises to deliver the same capabilities as the original HAF 932 but in a slightly smaller package.
High Air Flow
Like its bigger HAF 932 cousin, the HAF 922 sports fans aplenty to live up to its claims of superior air flow and ventilation. But being a mid-tower casing, some compromises have to be made for the size of the fans. This casing uses slightly smaller fans - 120mm and 200mm fans compared to the 140mm and 230mm ones on the HAF 932.
Despite the smaller fans, ventilation is not an issue for the HAF 922 thanks to the unfiltered meshes that allow for good air flow, and plenty of options to install more fans should you feel the need to. As with the larger 932, dust will quickly become a concern, given the lack of filters.
Looks wise, the exterior is quite similar and it retains much of the feel and even the black of the HAF 932. It's however much lighter, at 10.9kg fully loaded, compared to the HAF 932's 15.4kg. Sure, it's still not that light, but it's definitely much easier to carry around. The casing feels pretty solid, so we're guessing there won't be accidental dents when bumped.
Interior Design
Like practically all Cooler Master casings, installing the HAF 922 is a tool free process, though you will need the screwdriver on one occasion - when mounting the motherboard. Everything else can be easily clipped and locked into place without further need for screws.
The HAF 922 is definitely roomy enough despite it being a mid-tower casing. And it's more than adequate for most users unless you suddenly have an urge to start installing huge heatsinks or water cooling systems, which we doubt will happen thanks to the already decent fans that the HAF 922 has.
Even with everything turned on, we did notice that noise wasn't really a problem. It was pretty quiet despite having at least three fans for air flow. Cooler Master did a great job on the original HAF 932 and we're glad to see it keep to the same high standards for the HAF 922.
Closing the Bay Doors
If the big and bulky Cooler Master HAF 932 was too huge for your room, then take heart that the HAF 922 is a smaller yet equally functional version. But if the original HAF 932 was too expensive for you at S$159.99, the HAF922 at US$129.99 may not be to your liking either. We say, splurge the cash and enjoy the awesomeness that is the HAF 922.
