Shure SE110 Sound Isolating Earphones

Listen to the Sound of Music

For those who spend a large amount of time commuting, music has always been an excellent way to wind away the long minutes (or hours for that matter) till you reach your destination. With quality portable audio players being readily accessible at affordable prices, we don't see a reason why our ears have to be assaulted by cheap and low quality earphones.

In comes the Shure SE110, which aims to expand Shure's line of performance audio products into the mid-range segment by offering great music and sound isolation to consumers with limited purchasing power.

Beckoning Power

Testing with Il Divo's rendition of the song, Unchained Melody, the Shure SE110 was able to deploy its maximum capability. Vocals were sensual, and high notes could be reached in all its glory while instrumentals remained crisp and sharp. Compared with our personal set of Crossroads MylarOne X3i inner canal earphones, the SE110 produced a noticeable superior treble performance. However, when Tiesto’s Adagio for Strings was playing, the Shure showed a more subdued bass response. Music was still pleasurable, but a little less than encompassing with tracks that rely heavily on the lower frequencies for intense immersion.

One of the nifty features that we particularly like are the foam earbud inserts, which not only helped to create an excellent fit for the ears, but also significantly reduced noise intrusion from the surrounding environment. While traveling on the trains, one can truly experience the insulation it offers. Just be careful not to miss your stop as the music is known to overpower announcements while using the SE110.

Value for Money Still

The Shure SE110 isn't exactly going for a small amount of money with a retail price of S$179 (~US$127). Comparatively, our Crossroads MylarOne X3i is nearly a third of its price. However, considering that it is a Shure, the SE110's are still a pretty decent deal. On top of that, the package comes together with three pairs of disposable foam sleeves and three pairs of sort flex sleeves (with differing sizes), a portable case and a nozzle cleaning tool. Simply put, the SE110 lives up to Shure's reputation for delivering great audio quality, albeit mainly for vocals and instrumentals.
