Designed as a mobile Internet device, the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet has, first and foremost, high-speed 802.11b/g Wi-Fi connection for quick web browsing. The built-in Opera web browser supports the latest web standards, ranging from AJAX that powers Google Maps, XML for RSS feeds, to Adobe Flash 9 that supports richer web content over traditional text and images. Mozilla, another popular web browser, is supported too.

Setting it up to connect to my home WiFi network was a breeze. The N800 detected it with no trouble and prompted me along the way to enter the relevant password. After that I used the Google applet to do a quick search and the web browser popped up. I found the “Fit width to view” option and while small, the web page was legible. Selecting the required links was also easy, demonstrating the sensitivity and accuracy of the touch screen.

When I powered up the N800, the screen was crystal clear, taking less than a minute to power it up. Navigating to the Connection manager, I entered the configuration of my home Wi-Fi access point. In a matter of seconds, the N800 connects to my home Wi-Fi access point. Surfing the Internet was a breeze. I was able to use its on screen keyboard to enter the URLs of the websites. The Soccernet website displayed brilliantly on the screen with ease of reading. I can resize the fonts on the website quickly by pressing on the "+" and "-" buttons on the top of the N800. Getting RSS feeds using the onboard reader was a simple task. All I need to do is to click on the refresh feed icon and select All feeds. The RSS reader then diligently pulls down the latest feeds from the internet.

Web browsing experience on the N800 is a much better experience than on even the best phone-based web browser. This difference is readily apparent. Being a regular market trader, the N800 is a great device that allows me to monitor the financial market with ease. As a non-blogger, but a blog reader nonetheless, it greatly pleases me that the N800 comes with an RSS reader of its own even though one can use Google Reader.
