A key strength of the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet is its Linux based operating system. As it is a piece of open source software, 3rd party applications and enhancements can simply be downloaded for free at Maemo.org, thereby giving you the option to customize your N800 to work even harder for you.

In accessing web pages, I am pleasantly surprised that the web page loading speed is comparable to my notebook. Menus opened instantly and applications opened in a few seconds. To have a feel of its processing power, I subject the N800 to execute multiple tasks. I have a few applications and web browsers opened and the N800 still functions effortlessly.

Being a tech enthusiast, the N800's Linux operating system is a huge draw for me. There is a wealth of applications available via the Maemo community and more open-source applications are being ported to the N800. Maemo is the codename given to the N770/N800's application development environment. From time to time, the community also release patches to upgrade the N800's software capabilities and to fix bugs, in addition to the regular updates provided by Nokia.
