The Leadtek GeForce 6800 Ultra is available in
both 256MB and 512MB variant but for future proofing purposes, we've
featured the meaner and larger 512MB version in this gaming rig
feature. It utilizes a two-slot cooling unit for the GPU and performs
well in games like Doom3 and Splinter Cell 3: Chaos Theory. Of course
for those of you looking for next-generation-like performance, going
with an SLI capable platform such this Intel Extreme gaming rig
setup brings you tremendous performance gains. Simply purchase two
identical SLI cards and configure them for SLI use and enjoy the
excellent performance improvements we have noted in our tests. For
our editor's choice gaming rig, we chose to use a pair of these
Leadtek GeForce 6800 Ultra 512MB PCI Express graphics cards in SLI
mode. As you can see in our benchmarking section, we encountered
a minimum of 50% performance increase versus just a single card.
If money is no object and top game performance is a must, then high-end
graphics cards in an SLI setup is a must.
Also, an SLI setup allows each graphics card to project up to two
monitors using its dual DVI interface, hence you can achieve quad
monitor display for a surround view effect. This applies only to
the desktop user environment and not in gaming where the graphics
cards work together to churn out frames fast enough for a single
display output.
