Lets find out just how extreme these gaming rigs can be when tweaked
to their best. If you thought that the results at default speeds were
amazing, wait till you check out the overclocked scores.
CPU: For the AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 processor on ABIT's Fatal1ty
AN8 motherboard, the default processor speed is 2,612MHz. After meddling
with ABIT's uGuru and BIOS settings, we managed to overclock it to 2,838MHz
- rock stable.
GFX: HIS graphics card's default speed for the Core
and Memory are 520MHz and 1080MHz DDR respectively. As you have read
from our review,
this card overclocks impressively thanks to its expensive cooling module
and it managed to overclock the card to 588MHz and 1266MHz DDR for its
Core and Memory respectively. Here are the benchmarks before and after
overclocking:-
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition 3.73GHz processor on a
MSI K8N Diamond did very well in overclocking too. From the default
processor speed of 3,733MHz, we forced the system into overdrive and
managed a final stable clock speed of 4,270MHz.
GFX: The performance of Leadtek's GeForce 6800 ULTRA
in SLI mode is definitely impressive but to maximize its exorbitant
cost, we tried our hand at overclocking it. From a default speed of
400MHz for its core, we managed to ramp it to 435 MHz. Here are the
benchmarks before and after overclocking.
So, there you have it - the Editor's Choice of Gaming Rigs as of June
2005. We hope you enjoyed reading this article as not many of us have
the capacity to purchase such high-end systems and experience what the
best systems are capable of achieving. Until the next set of outstanding
components loom upon us in the near future, we will be monitoring the
tech front to update our Editor's Choice of Gaming Rigs at the right
timeframe.
