Olympus New Mju Lineup

Olympus Mju-9000

Olympus has taken on a new approach to its product segmentation, starting with its Mju series. In the past, you would probably recognize some of its underwater and shockproof cameras under the Mju category, but not this time. In a bid to make things easy for the consumer, Olympus has started on a path to re-brand their products, albeit only a slight change.

Starting off, the new Olympus Stylus Mju-9000 will be targeted at the fashionistas looking out for a sleek, slim and (evidently named) stylish compact digital camera.

Boasting an impressive 10X optical zoom for a camera of its stature, the Mju-9000 is also bundled with loads of bells and whistles, such as the new Beauty Mode. In essence, the Mju-9000's Beauty Shot function will enhance any facial subject matter by increasing the sparkle within the eyes and toning down the skin hues to produce a smoother result. We did manage to tinker with the Beauty Shot, and to be honest, we'll still stick to the age old quote, "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder".

The Olympus Mju-9000 is now available at a recommended retail price of S$598 (inclusive of GST).

Key Features of the Olympus Mju-9000

  • 12-megapixel
  • 1/2.33" sensor size
  • 10X optical zoom
  • 28mm to 280mm lens
  • Dual Image Stabilization
  • 2.7-inch HyperCrystal III LCD monitor and a wide 160-degree viewing angle
  • Intelligent Auto mode
  • Beauty Mode
  • In-camera Panaroma Mode

Olympus Mju-7000

Think 10X optical zoom is not necessary and like to tighten those purse strings? The Olympus Mju-7000 might just be the thing, with a lower zoom ratio of 7X. Akin to its Mju-9000 sibling, the Mju-7000 also utilizes Olympus' latest TruePic III image processing engine, and comes with Dual Image Stabilization function. And of course, the larger 3-inch LCD monitor will be easier on the eyes when you are reviewing your images.

For the Mju-7000 lovers, you might have to wait for a bit more as the Olympus Mju-7000 has no firm date or pricing yet, but it certainly won't exceed its Mju-9000 sibling's price point.

Key Features of the Olympus Mju-7000

  • 12-megapixel
  • 1/2.33" sensor size
  • 7X optical zoom
  • 37mm to 260mm lens
  • Dual Image Stabilization
  • 3.0-inch LCD monitor
  • Intelligent Auto mode
  • Beauty Mode

Olympus Mju-1070

Fancy something even slimmer? There's still one more trick up Olympus' sleeves: the Olympus Mju-1070. Sporting a slider lens cover design, the Mju-1070 is touted as one of Olympus' slimmest product to date, at a mere 16.5mm. As such, you'll find this to be more fitting for the female crowd, especially so with its Blue, Gold and Pink color variants. And it's not all about aesthetics. The Mju-1070's imaging sensor is bumped up to 12 megapixels, and has sufficient zoom ratio at up to 3X optical zoom. Besides the all-new Beauty Mode as seen on its other Mju siblings, the Mju-1070 also comes with Smile Detection.

Similarly, the Olympus Mju-1070 hasn't been officially given a retail availability date, nor has a pricing been tagged onto it.
