HardwareZone Iron Tech 2008: Thailand Semi-Finals

Introduction

Introduction

With the Grand Finals of HardwareZone's Iron Tech 2008 just mere days away on October 12, the finalists for all the regional Semi-Finals (except Singapore) have already been decided. After the exciting legs in the Philippines and Malaysia that we had covered before, we now turn our attention today to Thailand and zoom down to Zeer Rangsit IT Mall, which was the venue for the Thai leg of Iron Tech 2008.

Held on the 20th of September, the Thailand competition saw six selected PC enthusiasts battling it out for attractive prizes from main sponsor MSI (Micro-Star International). Similar to the other legs, the top two winners will also have a chance to compete against the other finalists from five countries for the title of Iron Tech Champion during the Grand Finals in Singapore.

Lasting over four hours in a extreme test of their skills, ingenuity and technical knowledge, contestants are expected to go through 3 phases of competition, from building a PC from its constituent components to system and software installation, before their rigs are pitted against each other to determine the best overclocked performer. In short, here's what it consists of:-

  • Phase 1: The Rigging Challenge - Build the PC from scratch fastest and ensure it works!
  • Phase 2: The Setup Challenge - Setup OS, Drivers, Tools and achieve a stable overclocked state within an hour.
  • Phase 3: The Benchmark Challenge - Contestants' rigs are put to the limit to see who achieves the best results.
