Where's My Perfect GPS Device?

Show me a flawless GPS and I'll show you a juggling, dancing, three-legged, rainbow-colored, unicorn with two horns on its forehead.

Having had the privilege to review a variety of GPS devices for HardwareMAG's March issue (go check it out!), I've come to the conclusion that the perfect GPS doesn't exist; they all have their minor niggles. Some of them have problems trying to locate the place I want to go; while others provide me the wrong directions, making me take a longer route than necessary; and still others commonly fail to operate whilst in the midst of Singapore Central Business District. And if I wanted to nitpick, some of these units spoke with a really annoying accent.

Fortunately, my problems with GPS devices pale in comparison to what happen to this Oregon couple, whose GPS device led them to the wilderness, leaving them stuck in snow and out in the freezing cold for three days. Or this U.K. woman (who drives a £96k Merc SL500 no less!), who drove straight into a river, thanks to her over reliance on her GPS device.

And I'm scratching my head wondering why. I mean all I need is directions to a place, is that really so hard? Your thoughts please.
