Can There Be Only One (Social Media Client)?

Fans of social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook? If so, you'll probably share a common problem with us - having a single client to do it all. While options such as Tweetdeck is great to aggregate your Twitter and Facebook feeds together, this is only applicable for your PC. And what of mobile devices? Well, Tweetdeck does have such a client.

But what about other mobile platforms? Both Twitter and Facebook have apps, either from the vendor itself or via third party apps. This is seen on Research in Motion's (RIM) BlackBerry devices with UberTwitter and a multitude of apps for Twitter on Google's Android platform. The same goes for Symbian, with well-received Gravity garnering the best user experience for a Twitter client. Facebook is also available on the abovementioned platforms, and on Windows Mobile.

Wouldn't it be great if you have one single app that pulls in all your news feed via Twitter and Facebook? Yes, it would be, and we've seen it on Motorola's MOTOBLUR on its latest Android devices. And at this year's Mobile World Congress, HTC's updated Sense user interface (UI) will also include a Friends Stream that pulls news feed from both Facebook and Twitter.

But like always, there's never enough. As we see more social media sites rising, mobile devices will have to pick up the pace and provide a tightly integrated service or app to enjoy the full potential of social networking. Till then, we'll have to make do with what we have.
