The SGH-C100

Tired of all the clamshell offerings from Samsung? Here's the latest addition to Samsung's dual-band line-up which comes in the more familiar candy bar form factor. The new Samsung SGH-C100 is a simple looking slim mobile phone targeted at individuals who wants a robust phone that gives them more than just an attractive color screen.

Although this slim mobile phone measures only a mere 17mm thick, the length and width of the phone may be a little too bulky for some. Measuring at 111mm x 45mm, the phone is still considered light as it weighs only about 76g. The SGH-C100 comes in an attractive silver shell with smooth silver linings that resembles most of Samsung's other models. The back of the phone, however, uses a darker toned silver cover that gives the phone's body a rather simple look and feel.

The phone's functions and buttons are very similar to most mobile phones, so if you're upgrading from another model, you should not have any problems with navigation. The numeric buttons are laid out in a very orderly fashion and each number is in a separate key of its own. We like it this way as compared to other phones that uses a single key for two or more numbers - as individual keys are always easier to feel and press. The only difference with this layout is the location of the 'i' key which is not at the center of the directional keypad. Instead, this WAP browser shortcut key is shared with the cancel/clear button.

On the right side of the phone, you'll find the headset output jack which is neatly hidden by a piece of rubber sheath. Ironically, a handsfree kit is not provided with the phone, thus, you'll probably need to buy it separately. On the other side, there's the volume control and the IrDA port which lets you communicate with your PC via infra-red. This is the only means of communication for the SGH-C100 as the complete package does not come with any data cable. Of course, you can always purchase a PC data cable separately that plugs right into the data port located below the phone. For those unfamiliar with Samsung phones, this data port doubles up as the battery charging port as well since a desktop charger is not offered with the SGH-C100.
