Introduction

Gigabyte never fails to amaze us with their excellent timing of graphics card releases as their MAYA II GV-R9500 64MB was once again the first ATI RADEON 9500 VPU based card in our lab. This time the box packaging which that card arrived in was even more attention grabbing than their MAYA II GV-R9700 PRO.

Very appealing colour scheme and box design indeed, though it is nothing fanciful but a strong contrasting design that immediately grabs the buyer's attention.

Now what is new with this card? A month back, ATI had finally announced few important graphics cores to fill the vast performance gap between the previously launched RADEON 9000 / 9000 Pro GPU and the speedy RADEON 9700 Pro VPU. Prior to this, ATI had nothing to offer in the higher-end graphics card segment besides the RADEON 9700 Pro, which was more of an ultra high-end segment. The RADEON 9700 Pro is the fastest graphics processor around and commands a huge premium as well (literally because of the performance, high manufacturing cost and current yield).
