Hercules 3D Prophet 9000 Pro 128MB

No sooner were we done wrapping up the RADEON 9000 Pro 64MB from Gigabyte, Hercules had their equivalent offering eagerly awaiting our graphics card trials. Apart from Gigabyte, Hercules is the only other major heavy weight graphics card provider with ATI’s solutions.

In the past, Hercules was not always an ATI partner. In fact, that change of partnership only occurred last year when ATI had released their RADEON 7500 and 8500 GPUs. Without a doubt, ATI’s gain of partnership with Hercules is a powerful ally for both parties and a sign of ATI’s increasing technology prowess, affluence and confidence.

Currently Hercules has only two products from the slew of new chipsets that ATI had released recently (there are two more but these have only been announced very recently and won’t be present in retail as of the time of writing). One based on the ATI RADEON 9700 Pro and the other is built around the ATI RADEON 9000 Pro of which we shall first look at the latter variant in this review. While Gigabyte’s RADEON 9000 Pro is a 64MB frame-buffer model, the Hercules 3D Prophet 9000 Pro is a 128MB model. Whether this was a coincidental or not, it is good business practice, as neither of them will be encroaching into each other’s sales segment for the RADEON 9000 Pro.
