Introduction

It has been quite a while since we last took a look at a CD-RW drive from Lite-On. Just recently, Lite-On passed us an evaluation unit of their latest 52x24x52x drive and we had the opportunity over the last couple of days benchmarking it. Now that 40x12x48x and 48x16/24x48x drives have become the mainstay in most of today's DIY system, how much of a performance boost does a 52x24x52x drive offer over the previous terminologies?

We know for certain given today's writing technologies, CD-RW are reaching a "peak" or plateau whereby anything beyond 48x-writing speeds will offer very just substantial improvements. So why launch a 52x drive? Well, many consumers have the mindset that the higher the terminology a CD-RW offers, the faster it'll take to write on a media. While that is true on paper, it doesn't necessarily mean so in reality. Without further ado, let's move on over to the next page to see what this Lite-On 52x24x52x is capable of.
