It's An Iomega
Iomega Corporation was established in 1980, to provide personal storage solutions that help people share, manage, protect and enjoy their digital lives. The same folks who gave us the popular Zip Drives as well as the colored Zip Disks, Iomega upped the ante in the optical storage competition with the release of their first USB 2.0 external CD-RW, dubbed the 'Panther'.
USB 2.0
The thing with USB 2.0 at the moment, is they're unlike the USB ports behind your motherboard that runs at 12Mbps. USB 2.0 features a maximum transfer rate that's forty times faster than USB 1.1 - 480mbps, or 60MB per second. Now is that fast or what? Until motherboards adopt USB 2.0 into their architecture, the only way to enjoy USB 2.0 speed is via a separate USB 2.0 PCI card.
The Blue Panther
The Panther works just like any internal CD-RW drives
|
The Panther can also work as a stand-alone CD-player.

The 16x10x40x Panther isn't the first external drive in Iomega's long line of CD-RW drives (Anyone remembered the Predator?), but it is their first entry into the USB 2.0 arena. At a glance, the Panther will give the impression of a super-sized blue Zip drive. It is big, and to some extent, a little bulky for it to be easily portable. But as our tests will show, the Panther is big in performance as well.
