Maintaining the Formula

Bearing many similarities with its predecessors in terms of build, styling and user ergonomics, the Joybok S53W is BenQ's latest attempt in crafting a notebook that boasts a fresh identity. Designed for the trend conscious consumers, it differs from most conventional business notebooks. Encased in white with rounded edges and a chic design, the BenQ Joybook S53W is almost certain to attract a lot of attention from young executives, particularly those who are just embarking on their careers with not much cash to splurge on notebooks such as a brand new Sony VAIO TX for example. This is not to say that the next best thing is a BenQ Joybook S53W. Instead, what we are conveying is the stylish design element shared by both notebook series, which is a stark contrast to the bland facade of most conventional business notebooks available in the market.

BenQ Joybook S53W

Even when loaded with a 6-cell battery pack, the BenQ Joybook S53W is only weighs 2.1kg, making it just about lightweight enough to be considered as a notebook with good portability. Weight aside, the Joybook S53W comes standard with a 13.0-inch WXGA TFT LCD panel whose native resolution is rated for 1280 x 768 pixels, which is exactly the same panel found on its predecessor, the Joybook S52W. Another design highlight brought over to the succeeding Joybook S53W is the latch-less design where the LCD can be easily flipped up. This is unlike many other modern business notebooks where you still have a hassle of sliding a lever or pushing a button before flipping up the screen.

New to the Joybook S53W however is a faster Intel Pentium M 750 processor running at 1.86GHz and the use of DDR2 memory modules, which spells of a more capable notebook with a higher performance ceiling than the older Joybook S52W that was configured with slower Pentium M processors ranging between 1.6 to 1.73GHz and standard DDR memory modules.

Similar to a number of BenQ Joybooks to have come our way, the chassis of Joybook S53W was manufactured from a combination of high quality materials in the form of magnesium alloy for the exterior skin of the LCD panel and ABS plastic for the housing that holds the notebook together. Due to the choice of these materials, the BenQ Joybook S53W Centrino notebook is one handsome and sturdy product that should handle the rigors of mobile computing comfortably.
