Sony's Handycam Turns 20!
21st October 2005 marks Sony Handycam's 20th anniversary and success in the camcorder industry. On that day, www.hardwarezone.comĀ® had a chance to walkthrough how the Handycam has evolved over the years since Sony's first Handycam video Camcorder back in 1985, and at the same time witnesses the launch of Sony's three new Cyber-shots, the DSC-R1, N1 and M2 digital cameras to mark that eventful occasion. Before we introduce these three new digital cameras, let us highlight a few notable Handycam models from the past that have made their mark in the industry.
Sony displayed some of the more popular Handycam models that were made from 1985 till today and was an interesting reminder of how camcorder technology has evolved over time.

The DCR-TR110 released in the 1999, was the best selling Sony Camcorder in Singapore.

The HDR-HC1E marks the world's smallest HD video camcorder featuring a 3-Megapixel CMOS sensor.

Sony released yet another world's smallest and lightest camcorder that uses MicroMV media.

The event was graced by Sony Singapore's Managing Director, Mr. Naoki Sekiguchi and General Manager & VP of Carl Zeiss division, Dr Winfried Scherie.

The next major highlight of the event was the launch of three new Cyber-shot cameras that have amassed a lot of hype over the internet, which we will showcase each in further detail over the following pages.
