Counting Down

The past week has seen leaked pictures of the highly anticipated ATI R520 XT graphics card on the Internet for the first time. Like the NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX cards, the R520 XT or the X1800 XT as ATI seems to be calling it, only has PCI Express support available (for now). While the appearance of the X1800 XT is good news for those hungering for the latest ATI graphics technology, in this industry the release date is not an accurate gauge of when the product is actually available in retail. NVIDIA may have succeeded with its launch of the GeForce 7800 GTX with a massive blitz of cards available immediately in the shops, but we are skeptical of ATI managing the same for its new card.

Nevertheless, if the recent successful launch of its Radeon X800 GT is any indication, we may just see the X1800 XT in stores by November, though with the likely high prices, most people can only afford to gawk at it behind store windows. For the budget conscious, ATI already has a 'new' mid-range Radeon X800 GT series, which has succeeded in giving NVIDIA's GeForce 6600 GT some tough competition. As we have seen in our PowerColor Radeon X800 GT review, ATI's new mid-range weapon is priced well and offers compelling performance with better memory throughout. Today, we will be featuring an enhanced version released by HIS, its Radeon X800 GT Turbo. As usual, we'll start the review rolling with the card's complete technical specification as detailed below.
