Intel 915P Shootout : EPoX EP-5EPA+

Introduction

EPoX is another manufacturer well known by enthusiasts for producing solid motherboards that give good performance and are able to overclock well. EPoX's contender in our shootout is the EP-5EPA+. Presently, EPoX has based almost their entire LGA775 product line-up on the 915P Express chipset. An exception is the 5LWA+ motherboard targeted at the truly hardcore folks and is based on the ultra high-end 925XE Express chipset. They have so far skipped over the 925X Express, which leaves the EP-5EPA+ as EPoX's top consumer LGA775 motherboard.

The EPoX EP-5EPA+ bears the same signature green PCB as with most of their products. After going through nearly a dozen motherboards with customized designs and color schemes, the EPoX looks rather bland, much like Intel's reference Desktop Board. However, EPoX did spend quite an effort on the product packaging and the sexy black box art oozes appeal.
