Wide Bodied Acer TravelMate 8100
Having covered the intimate details of 'Sonoma' in our exhaustive review of the new mobile platform for Intel Centrino, the next notebook to come under our scrutiny is the Acer TravelMate 8100. Badged under its 8000 series that is designated as the company's performance series, the TravelMate 8100 is the first Acer notebook to completely make the switch to its Folio design theme. Highlights to note in this design are the graceful curves at the edges and a leather-like exterior constructed entirely of metallic graphite gray polycarbonate plastic.

Measuring 36.3cm across its width and 26.5cm deep, the unit appears massive and is actually quite an intimidating sight from afar. Thickness on the other hand is pleasantly slender, coming in at a delightful 3cm. In terms of build, the TravelMate 8100 is very well knocked together and even when its entire 2.86kg mass was supported on its side, there were no audible stresses from its plastic housing whatsoever.
