When Shuttle unveiled their first XPC, the Small Form Factor was more of a novelty item for the image and style conscious. In terms of performance, they were brushed aside as entry-level and no serious enthusiast would go near them. Fast-forwarding to today, high-end components are more readily available and it is proven that powerful systems can be designed into the compact shell of a SFF. With more manufacturers jumping onto the bandwagon, Shuttle's investment into the SFF arena has paid off. They have already carved a niche as the forerunner in SFF technology, and they do not plan to slow down anytime soon.

Shuttle's famous XPC series of SFF barebone PCs, now with support for high end socket 939 Athlon 64s. We present the SN95G5.

We recently received one of their top of the shelf products, the Shuttle XPC SN95G5. The SN95G5 is a barebone system based off NVIDIA's nForce3 Ultra chipset for socket 939 Athlon 64 platform. The nForce3 chipset has had over several revisions since its inception. One can say that the nForce3 had a rocky start with the crippled nForce3 150. NVIDIA has subsequently released updated revisions of the chipset with the nForce3 250 that had a full 800MHz HT bus plus the 250Gb variant, with Gigabit LAN. As socket 939 makes its debut, the nForce3 has had another facelift in the form of the nForce3 Ultra. The Ultra variant is similar in all aspects but has its HyperTransport bus boosted to 1GHz.

With a well matured chipset under the hood, the SN95G5 is expected to provide quite a punch. Before we look at the SN95G5 proper, let's check out the the packaging and technical specifications first.
