Back With More Stream Processors - Leadtek WinFast GTX 260 Extreme+

The Leadtek GTX 260 Extreme+

Our first taste of the new GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 SKU comes in the form of the Leadtek GTX 260 Extreme+. Physically, it looks no different from the other GTX 200 series cards we have in our labs. It employs a reference board design as well as a reference cooler, which is quite a let down because we were hoping that vendors would by now start implementing proprietary or third party coolers, because the reference cooler, as we had discovered in previous tests, is not very effective at keeping the cards cool. Internally, it is factory overclocked at 602MHz for the core, 2214MHz DDR for the memory and 1296MHz for the shaders.

The Leadtek WinFast GTX 260 Extreme+ came in a rather compact box (as far as high-end cards go) embossed with a glossy surface. On it, it proudly proclaims that it comes factory-overclocked and is armed with 216 stream processors.


As you can clearly see here, juxtaposed with the iPhone 3G, the Leadtek WinFast GTX 260 Extreme+ is alot of graphics card.


The Leadtek WinFast GTX 260 Extreme+ comes with only two HDCP-compliant DVI outputs and a mini-DIN. No HDMI or DisplayPorts here, sadly.


High-end graphics cards require lots of juice and the Leadtek WinFast GTX 260 Extreme+ is no different. Requiring two 6-pin connectors to power up, NVIDIA recommends a PSU rating of at least 500W.


Hidden under a rubber housing are the two SLI connectors, making 3-way SLI viable, but only for the wealthy, and possibly the insane.
