An Unusual GeForce 6600
Ennyah decided to take the road less traveled with the unusual move of clocking its PCX 6600 frame buffer at 500MHz DDR when the reference NVIDIA GeForce 6600 board came with a 550MHz DDR memory. Obviously, this gave the Ennyah PCX 6600 a handicap of 50MHz in terms of its memory frequency and its performance will inevitably be affected. This is compounded by the fact that the memory speed is locked and cannot be overclocked even if you were so inclined. NVIDIA does not require its manufacturing partners to adhere strictly to its reference design but its reference design understandably becomes the de facto standard. More often than not, vendors tend to 'overclock' their cards in the factory. However, Ennyah must have their own reasons for doing, if only to lower the cost of production and hopefully pass those savings to consumers.
An ordinary looking cooler that gives a rather average performance.
Besides the lower frequency for its frame buffer, the Ennyah PCX 6600 is no different from the typical GeForce 6600 card. Featuring the GeForce 6600 GPU, which has eight pixel pipelines and three vertex shaders, and a 128MB frame buffer on a 128-bit bus, the Ennyah is squarely aimed at the lower and mid-range segment. The aluminum cooler performed decently, using a 40mm fan that was fairly loud during operation though still within tolerable limits. The overall noise level was average and barely acceptable while the temperature hovered below 50 degrees Celsius for all our tests.
Standard connectors are found on the rear I/O.
These Samsung memory chips are not the fastest you can find at 4.0ns.
The Ennyah PCX 6600 has practically no bundled software to mention. The single CD included contains the graphics drivers, user manual and Microsoft's DirectX software. We were rather disappointed that Ennyah did not even include the basic DVD player software.
The following is a list of the items we found in the package:
1 x DVI-to-VGA adaptor
1 x Composite extension cord
1 x 9-pin mini-Din to S-Video/Composite dongle
