The HP dvd200e

The HP dvd200e DVD+RW External drive uses both the USB 2.0 and IEEE1394 connectivity, and is powered by an external power adapter. We'll soon see if there are any performance differences with the dvd200e when using different connection.

The dvd200e supports USB 2.0... well as IEEE-1394.

As with most HP products, the dvd200e comes with a wide assortment of software. They include:

  • MyDVD Video by Sonic Solutions, a direct-to-DVD solution for DVD recording and editing that provides consumers with an easy, step-by-step method to transform home videos into interactive DVDs
  • HP Recordnow by Veritas to quickly and simply make custom music and data CDs and DVDs
  • HP DLA to drag and drop files to CD or DVD directly from any application
  • HP Memories Disc Creator to create a digital photo slide show to view and enjoy using your TV and DVD player or PC
  • Power DVD by Cyberlink to play DVD movies on PCs

The dvd200e comes with an abundance of software support.

Other bundled applications include ArcSoft ShowBiz, Multimedia Email, MUSICMATCH Jukebox and HP Simple Backup to store critical data reliably.

    Lossless Linking

So what is Lossless Linking? You see, pre-recorded DVD-ROM/Video media have data recorded contiguously without gaps in between. Re-writable DVD discs are expected to have the same manner in order to keep themselves compatible with today's DVD-ROM drives and DVD video players. This distinctive Lossless Linking technology keeps the gap between data within 1 micron when data is adding/editing. High Frequency Wobbled Groove* that is defined in DVD+RW Standard makes precise positioning possible. DVD+RW discs, therefore, maintain high compatibility with DVD-ROM drives and DVD players, even data is added or edited.
