Not Just Another Drive

The power connector and the external port that connects to a USB 1.1/2.0 connection via a proprietory cable.

We still don't know what this mysterious port does.

At the rear end of the drive, there is the USB 2.0 port that connects to a LITE-ON proprietory cable. The thing here is if you so happen to misplace or damage this proprietory cable, it won't be as easy as just heading down to your nearest computer shop to purchase a common USB cable.

The proprietory cable.

The volume knob inside a thumb-groove, along with the line-in jack.

On the right side of the drive is the line-in jack where you can hook it up to your soundcard with the included audio cable. A volume knob is built on the same side, and is fixed inside a groove that is pretty comfortable on your thumb.

SMART Technologies

Unlike many other drives that use either Sanyo's BURN-Proof or Ricoh's JustLink buffer-underrun protections, LITE-ON uses a proprietory buffer-underrun technology known as SMART-BURN. While their names may be different, these technologies works fundamentally the same. Below is a short description on SMART-BURN and SMART-X quoted on LITE-ON's website.
Featuring LITE-ON's SMART-BURN (or Smart Monitoring & Adapting Recording Technology for BURNing) buffer underrun protection, the drive will be intelligent enough to know how to resume from the point it stopped burning due to buffer underrunning. In addition to that, SMART-X (Smart Monitoring & Adjusting Read-speed Technology for Extraction) is an optimum write speed control feature, which checks the media's highest speed capability before deciding what speed it should write on the media, so as to produce the maximum quality result.
