Not Another Sequel?

Most of the time, sequels don't attract me much but the Predator 2 is an exception. Working on a 24x writing speed engine, the Predator 2 is faster than most USB-based drives out there today. Combining a CD-RW drive of that speed with the USB 2.0 is really a good demonstration of the USB technology. Giving you a bandwidth of 480Mbps, there's a lot more room for high-speed burners.

The Iomega Predator 2 comes with a bunch of software and a free USB 2.0 card for those who are still using older PCs. Iomega bundles the Predator 2 with their own Iomega HotBurn for creating music and audio CDs, MusicMatch Jukebox for downloading, recording, organizing and playing digital (MP3 or WMA) music, and Adobe ActiveShare for organizing, editing and sharing your digital photos. There are two different bundle versions of the Predator 2, one which comes with a PCI USB 2.0 card and the other with a PCMCIA USB 2.0 card for notebooks. According to the specifications (or rather brochure) which we received, the USB 2.0 card is given free only during this promotional period.

Click me!! The HotBurn software comes with a friendly user interface for making CDs. Lets you create CD labels too.

Click me!! CD burning made simple with HotBurn.

The MusicMatch Jukebox software for organizing, downloading and burning your digital music.

The new Predator 2 seems to be targeted at consumers with very little knowledge of CD burning, judging from the type of software bundled with the drive. We were a little surprised that it didn't come with the usual Nero Burning ROM 5.5 or Nero InCD which we have become so used to.

Here's the specifications of the drive :-
