A Familiar Face

Wrapped within the thick plastic housing lies not a drive manufactured by HP but rather a DVD writer sourced from BenQ instead. In another words, BenQ is the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for the HP dvd640e, hence the familiar faceplate that was last used by BenQ for their DW1600 DVD writers before the Taiwanese company switched over to a new faceplate design to ensure disparity between drives that are meant for OEM orders and units shipped with the BenQ badge. Technically speaking, the HP dvd640e should be just as good and reliable a DVD writer as its BenQ DW1625 equivalent.

The faceplate of the HP dvd640e is exactly the same as a BenQ DW1600 DVD writer.

Two FireWire ports and one USB 2.0 port located at the rear of the drive provide the bandwidth necessary for the drive to operate optimally.

No sound proofing material at the mouth of the HP drive.

There is however, dampening material lining the tray.

Other stuff you can expect to find.
