Introduction

When O2 first released their XDA (a PDA-phone hybrid) in 2002, people who were holding onto an organizer and a mobile phone needed no second thoughts to make the switch, even when these high-tech toys were extremely pricey. Hybrids such as the XDA have been very well received due to its obvious benefit of gadget convergence and consequently, lightening your gadget load. While the XDA was not the first device of its kind developed to bridge the gap between an organizer and a mobile phone, it was unique as it was a pioneering piece of convergence device to merge GSM communications and GPRS seamlessly with Microsoft's Pocket PC 2002 Phone Edition operating system. This 'always on' web empowering blend was the main reason behind the phenomenal success of the XDA line upon its release.

As popular as the device was with executives and the so call 'geek' user base, one common gripe was its size. Despite the many adverts promoting the device as a pocket friendly gadget, the hard reality was its size was anything but pocket friendly. Not even the successor to the original XDA, the XDA II could parade size as a selling point, as both weigh about 190g and have roughly the same bulky physique as a fully endowed Pocket PC. Naturally, size reduction is the next step in the XDA's evolution and hence the birth of O2's latest offering - XDA II mini. It is hoped that with this new product, the company can finally win over the hearts of consumers outside the executive and geek user group.
