Special Features

Now that you have seen the camera’s specifications that are common to most digital cameras, here are a few extra features the Pentax Optio S4 has to offer.

  • Focusing Modes: The Pentax Optio S4 offers a variety of focusing modes, namely, Auto, Macro, Super Macro, Infinity-landscape, Manual Focus, and Focusing Area; which allows the user to select the area in the frame to focus on.

  • World Time Function: The Pentax Optio S4 can display the time for 62 different cities around the world (corresponding to 28 time zones). The time and date for each shot taken is recorded, making the sorting of photos easier upon return from traveling.

  • Alarm Function: The camera can be set to display a selected image at a specified time.

  • Multi-language Menu: All menus and messages of the Pentax Optio S4 can be set for display in the user’s choice of English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Chinese, or Japanese.

  • 3D pictures: The 3D effect can be achieved by capturing two shots using the 3D camera feature, printing them out, and looking at them through the special viewer provided.

  • Panorama Assist: For expansive scenes, this mode allows multiple shots that can be aligned and combined on a PC using the enclosed, ACDSee software, Photostitcher.

  • Digital Filters: The Pentax Optio S4 offers a range of digital filters, such as black and white, sepia, or a range of colours (red, pink, yellow, green, blue, and purple), which can be used to add a different mood to shots. The camera also offers a special Slim filter that makes subjects appear slender or broader to different degrees.

  • Trimming: This function allows images to be cropped and parts selected for storage on their own as individual files.

  • Resize: A resize function allows the data size of recorded shots to be reduced. This frees up space to capture more shots without having to delete those already taken. In addition, the resized data can be stored as new files or used to overwrite the previous images.

  • Fast Forward Movie: The Time-lapse movie function allows a sequential set of shots to be run as a short film. This can be used for effects, such as scenes of clouds rushing across the sky. There is a selection of recording speeds of X2, X5, X10, X20, X50, and X100.

  • In-built memory: The Pentax Optio S4 has approximately 11MB of in-built memory that allows the user to record images without the need for additional media.

  • Function Customization: The 4-way navigational controller can be customized for ease of control over the user’s preferred feature.
