The ECS V300 Tablet PC

It has been four years since the first prototype Tablet PC was first publicly demonstrated back in COMDEX/Fall 2000. Over the four years, tremendous technological improvements in various key areas such as transistor technology, LCDs, wireless modules, and battery cells have led to the current generation of Tablet PCs that sports excellent wireless connectivity, visual and sound quality and most importantly, improved battery life.


The idea of a Tablet PC is simple; it's basically a light and highly mobile computing device. All purebred Tablet PCs run on Windows XP Tablet Edition operating system. This version of Windows XP supports inking, pen/stylus navigation and has a pretty advanced handwriting recognition capability. Most notably unique to Windows XP Tablet PC Edition is the three software designed and written for Tablet PCs, namely Microsoft Windows Journal, Microsoft Input Panel and Microsoft Sticky Notes.

The pen writing input is by no means a mark of perfection as it's still far from being the perfect input tool for Tablet PC. Let's face it; keyboard typing and entry is still the fastest and preferred input method for a typical day-to-day PC user. No matter how much the product's marketing can claim or tell you, using a pen/stylus to create a document is still a snail's pace when compared to the instantaneous response from our trusty keyboard. The keyboard is still a must have device when the Tablet PC is docked on your desktop. However, when you're on the move, the only form of input is (like it or not) the pen/stylus.
