All the stuff we got with the Hyundai DeluxScan LM-1500A 15-inch TFT LCD Monitor

Featuring 'three-finger salute' OSD controls, medium-sized base stand and in-built power adapter, the Hyundai DeluxScan LM-1500A 15-inch TFT LCD monitor offers acceptable performance.

The main five control buttons are easily accessible--by using one's ring finger, index finger and thumb, simultaneously, users can manipulate the onscreen display (OSD) menu and other settings. (For left-handed persons, it is almost as easy using the left hand even though the distance is a bit further to reach.)

Both the video cable (D-sub 15-pin) and power cable (three-prong type) connect at the back of the lower support base. This eliminates the unsightly clutter of cables/wires if connected onto the panel itself, but it reduces the free-space area directly behind the unit—-it cannot be placed flushed against a cubical wall.

The Hyundai LM-1500A LCD monitor cannot swivel, and there are no speakers on this model (the newer S$799 DeluxScan LM-1510A model includes speakers). Copious small ventilation holes can be found scattered around on the backside of the panel for optimal heat dissipation.

Menu and Select buttons can be found under the front-lower bezel.

Users can adjust the OSD setting via 'three-finger salute' (see top photo also).

For testing the performance of these 15-inch TFT LCD monitors, we used a special pre-release of DisplayMate 2.0 for Windows Multimedia Edition (www.displaymate.com).

We used the monitor's own auto-adjustment feature at a resolution of 1024 x 768 at "optimal" refresh rate (see below for test system specs). The LM-1500A adjusted the color control to: R = 71; G = 69; B = 93.

We use DislpayMate v.2.0 for Windows (Multimedia Edition) for testing monitors and projectors.

The first aspect we noticed about the LM-1500A was the short duration of the OSD menu. Fortunately, users can adjust the length in which each of the menu stays onscreen from 10 seconds (default setting) to 50 seconds.

The LM-1500A's OSD (onscreen display) offers Brightness, Contrast, H/V Position, Clock, Clock Phase, Auto-Adjust, Color Control, Information, Language (11 options), OSD Control, and Test Pattern (RGB & Grayscale).

Under some of DisplayMate's test patterns focusing on color uniformity and intensity levels, the Hyundai LM-1500A did not do so well-—there was some slight blotchiness such as blue tinted shadows exhibited in all-white screens, light-gray screens and pastel-colored screens. Also, in Intensity Scale Step screens, the Hyundai monitor exhibited some color tracking errors along with restricted color-intensity scales, viz., blue, magenta, red and orange. Text was legible at 6.8 points (9 pixels) and above, and the Video Bandwidth Index for the display setting of the LM-1500A was 80.4. Gamma correction for the display was 2.53.

Notably, the Hyundai LM-1500A 15-inch TFT LCD monitor did well in the geometry and linearity test screens. Lines were straight, and perpendicular lines were accurately drawn on the screen.

The video cable and power cable connect to the monitor's base.

Getting the heat out quickly--there are a lot of heat ventilation holes on the backside of the LCD panel.

At only S$699, the LM-1500A would be an ideal product for SOHOs or small businesses that do not need multimedia capability in a monitor and whose work is not graphic intensive. Although the LCD monitor is priced competitively against some other products with comparable features, there's still room for improvement in the performance area.
