HWZ Footie Fever

June 18, 2008 – 9:00 am

In conjunction with Euro 2008, HWZ has launched a football-themed campaign ‘Footie Fever’ within its specially-created Euro 2008 channel in HWZ Forums on the 5th of June 2008. To enhance the exclusivity, the campaign is only opened to HWZ members. Members will interact not just themselves with the microsite, but also between other HWZ members.

It’s also the first time that a microsite-in-a-banner concept is utilized, as opposed to the traditional click-on-banner-to-go-microsite execution. This concept is born out from the unique surfing characteristics of the netizens within forums.

In forums, the surfing pattern is often noted to be that of extremely sticky. This means once a visitor is on our forums, there is a high tendency that he or she wants to remain in that forum channel. By have the microsite-in-a-banner approach, we are allowing him or her to stay in that channel and at the same time, interact and engage with our microsite.

Results of engagement till date have surpassed our expectations and have definitely surpassed our previous attempts on inhouse microsites where we try to drive publicity to the microsites via standard banners in forums.

Till date, we are recording an ‘engagement rate‘ of up to 30%. Engagement rate here refers to the number of times a user interact with any of the mechanics within the microsite over the number of times the microsite shown to the user.

Hardware Zone PlayTest

June 16, 2008 – 10:49 am

Held on 7th June at our Hardware Zone office was our inaugural PlayTest event which saw www.hardwarezone.com deluxe members, HWM, PVi and GameAxis UnWired subscribers asking questions about hardware and recommendations for the upcoming PC Show 2008, while also getting the chance to play test some of the newest and the finest products.

Testimonial from an attendee:
“Although PlayTest welcomed informal networking between your attendees and your editorial teams, your line up of events, Andy’s HD trends talk, and a couple of side games (GameAxis’ BoomBlox shoot-out competition and HWM’s Fastest Finger SMS challenge) were wonderful compliments to keep up everyone’s momentum and interest. You also had very generous prizes lined up for the winners of the games and lucky draw.

Since your editorial teams’ were present to answer everyone’s most burning questions on hardware, games and digital photography, I think PlayTest deserves a motto. “PlayTest - Know What You Want”. Thanks to PlayTest, now I know what I want.”
